SWiSH GOES BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL  FOR 2009 NYC PRIDE MARCH
Homocoming’ float to feature dance music industry artists Alan T, Alexander, Sean McMahon, Mykel, and Tania Mashay

NEW YORK CITY – SWiSH – the world’s most fabulous gay-straight alliance – welcomes all cheerleaders, “homocoming” queens, and football players to march with them down Fifth Avenue on Sunday, June 28, 2009, in the New York City Pride March, in honor of LGBT students past and present.

Joining us on this year’s high school-themed float will be some of the dance music industry’s most notable artists, including performer Alan T and DJ/remixer/producer Alexander of Blue Door Music, who will debut their new “SWiSH” track.

This is SWiSH’s seventh year in the NYC Pride march, having won awards from organizers Heritage of Pride for marching in 2003 and 2008.

“We cheer for the other team, and for the queer in all of us,” said Sue Sena, president and co-founder of SWiSH. “Our Pride presentation this year is both fun and political – the hallmarks of the SWiSH brand of activism.”

‘Half-Time Show’ Music Lineup Announced:

The SWiSH float will feature a continuous “half-time show” headed by a roster of leading artists in the dance music industry. Scheduled performers include:

• Alan T (Miami): dance music performer, SWISH, SWISH and Twirl from producers Alexander and Mark VDH, soon to be released on Digital Motion Records
• Alexander (L.A.): DJ/remixer/producer, Blue Door Music
• Sean McMahon: (NYC): DJ/producer, Vistamix Productions and Digital Motion Records
• Mykel (NYC): singer/performance artist/activist, Only the Lonely on Tone One Records
• Tania Mashay (NYC): singer,Songwriter,Producer, "Can’t Stop Movin’" on 8025 Alliance Music Group

Float to Honor LGBT Students:
This year’s float, RA RA SWiSH BOOM BA, honors LGBT young people who are proudly out at school, the students who remain closeted in silence and isolation, and members of older generations who never felt safe to come out during their high school years.

“We’re bringing together the gay and straight communities in love and partnership to celebrate LGBT students of all ages, and to call for policies that make our schools safe for gay and lesbian students,” Sena said.

LGBT young people are too often the targets of harassment and violence in our nation’s schools. Nearly nine out of 10 LGBT students have experienced harassment at school, and more than four in 10 reported being physically assaulted because of their sexual orientation, according to a recent survey by the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).
Interested marchers and supporters can register, make contributions to SWiSH, and access all Pride 2009 information at www.SWiSHpride.org.
